Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder impairing verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction skills. Impairments can range from barely noticeable to severe. Serving the greater Philadelphia area-including the counties of Montgomery, Delaware, Chester and Bucks in Pennsylvania, as well as surrounding areas in New York and New Jersey-The Main Line Autism Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnostic evaluations for any age group.
Who might benefit from an evaluation?
Any child, teenager or adult who has difficulties relating to or communicating with others might benefit from an evaluation. Although impairments in social interactions are a hallmark of autism spectrum disorders, there are many other mental health disorders that can cause difficulties in social interactions including ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), depression, anxiety or just shyness among others.
In order to treat individuals with social interaction problems, it is important to establish a diagnosis since treatment approaches and prognosis for various disorders are quite different.
At the Main Line Autism Diagnostic Clinic individuals can expect to get an accurate diagnosis and recommendations for treatment.
The diagnostic evaluation process also provides parents with an understanding of their child’s strengths and weaknesses and helps adults deepen their insights into their own psychological functioning and their relationships with others.
