What is autism?
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder impairing verbal and non-verbal communication and social interaction skills. It is accompanied by repetitive and restrictive behaviors. Autism spectrum disorders are characterized by impairment in social interactions and refer to three main categories, including autism, Asperger's syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder NOS, a technical term meaning "not otherwise specified."
How do you reach a diagnosis?
Dr. Jutta Vogt will conduct an in depth psychiatric evaluation focusing on developmental and social impairments, along with emotional and behavioral issues. She will perform an ADOSADOS stands for Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and is a structured play/interview session that assesses social, communication and play skills. It can be performed on all individuals with a developmental age of 18 months or older. What experience and qualifications do you have?
Dr. Vogt is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She worked as a consultant psychiatrist at the Center for Autism in Philadelphia for 6 years, where she gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders. She served as a faculty member in the department of psychiatry at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Dr. Vogt currently works as a consultant psychiatrist in community mental health centers in Philadelphia and at the Childrenís Presbyterian Village in Rosemont, PA.
How long is the waiting list to get an evaluation?
Currently the waiting time to schedule an evaluation is less than 2 weeks.
How much does an evaluation cost?
The cost for the evaluation is $1,500. Currently, we do not accept any insurance plans but will provide you with an itemized bill that you may be able to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Many managed care plans provide out of network coverage.
How long is an evaluation?
